As an award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author (two weeks, hardcover!) I’ve been honored to contribute to the national discussion with major books and long form magazine pieces about social policy, equity, advanced education, cognition, learning and technology, and gender. I also have written about nature, Nordic spas and mastery learning.

True stories: Oprah commissioned me to write an article about attempting to find God. I once did an interview in a hospital delivery room. I distilled a book I wrote into a viral post (about boys and school) that got 3 million hits in a 48 hours. I’ve been part of a group that won a Pulitzer Prize. I’ve been a finalist for a National Magazine Award.

I have served as an editorial consultant/editor on books about conservation photography, feminist economics, and spirituality.

As a novelist, I’ve written some rollicking tales of love and loss and ambition. My novels are being reissued in 2023 and 2024.
